A new generation of Pokémon is coming, marking a significant departure from the traditional format. Nintendo has announced the first two open-world Pokémon games, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple (each priced at $59.99) (actually, they can be considered a single game as each Pokémon generation has different versions, but the core gameplay remains the same).

After watching an hour of gameplay video of Scarlet/Violet on Nintendo Switch, we recommend that fans of open-world games keep a close eye on these two new games, which are releasing on November 18th.
Legendary Pokémon Scarlet incorporate many of the characteristics of Archeus’ vehicles, allowing you to climb and glide almost anywhere, giving the open world a “Breath of the Wild” feel. This mobility is incredibly useful in the game world, thanks to the quick access points found at each Pokémon Center.
However, this incredible mobility comes with the risk of creating a crowded feel to the game world. We’ll have to wait for the full game to be released to see how this aspect improves. Inspired by Archeus, Scarlet/Violet combines fast-paced adventure, chases, and battles. All wild Pokémon are visible in the open world, allowing for quick movement and sending your Pokémon into battles against wild creatures.
You can also engage in classic Pokémon battles when you encounter other Pokémon. However, this can be more frustrating than controlling the pace of the game, as smaller Pokémon can suddenly appear and attack. But the game changes with Pokémon trainers.
Instead of fighting other trainers like in other games in the series, in Scarlet/Violet, you approach them and challenge them to duels. Having played Scarlet, I can confidently say that its gameplay is much more focused on trainers. These new role-playing games represent a true reinvention of the Pokémon genre, and I didn’t expect them to take this new direction.
Furthermore, encountering Pokémon Scarlet is even normal. This seems more frustrating than setting the pace, as small Pokémon often surprise you right at your feet. That doesn’t seem to be the case with Pokémon Trainers.

In other Pokémon games, instead of battling Trainers as soon as they see you, in Scarlet/Violet, you have to approach Trainers and challenge them to battle. Having played Scarlet myself, I can confirm that this is closer to the first approach than the second.
