About Pokémon Shining Pearl NSP:
Pokémon Shining Pearl NSP is an adventure RPG where players explore the Great Nether and join the Pokémon League. Determining how many changes are necessary when redesigning a game is always a challenge, and this is especially true for the beloved Pokémon franchise.
Too many changes can be frustrating. The Switch versions of Pokémon Red and Blue, Let’s Go, Pikachu!, and Let’s Go, Eevee! are prime examples; while enjoyable, they felt a bit simplistic. On the other hand, if you know how to combine elements that have shaped the game’s mechanics over the years, you can create some of the series’ best games, such as HeartGold and SoulSilver for the DS.

Pokémon Diamond and Shining Pearl fall somewhere in between: they offer a great opportunity to complete Sinnoh Pokémon that weren’t in the main Sword and Shield games, but ultimately, they’re adventures you won’t want to revisit once you’ve finished them.

With the exception of the fourth generation, the first, second, and third generations benefited from impressive redesigns. However, instead of being a true tribute to that generation, the Game Freak remake, developed by ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon Diamond and Shining Pearl, opted for a less polished art style, neglecting many of the elements of Pokémon Platinum, the best game of that generation.
Pokémon Diamond and Shining Pearl feature a 3D “chibi” art style for the open world, giving all the characters a plain, Funko Pop!-like appearance—a major flaw. The battles weren’t any better—the arenas and environments for Pokémon battles are stunning—but the open world feels barren in comparison.
Pokémon Shining Pearl NSP ROM: The Good Old Days:
A real step backward for the series: Pokémon no longer spawn in the open world. Now they only appear randomly in the tall grass while exploring the Sinnoh area. We really hoped to get rid of this outdated system, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. However, Pokémon appear in the new Great Nether.
This world is a redesigned version of the original game system, where players can explore, collect parts, and meet other players. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl have been completely rebuilt with new environments, including wild Pokémon. This not only addresses a major issue in the fourth generation (the lack of Fire Pokémon) but also allows for the addition of several Platinum Pokémon that were absent from the main game.

Exploring the Nether in Pokémon Shining Pearl NSP ROM:
The game runs smoothly on both mobile and TV modes and looks great on the Nintendo Switch’s new OLED screen. While the graphics aren’t exceptional, all Pokémon models are realistically rendered, even if their static movements feel a bit clunky. Attacks are fluid, and many Pokémon have unique special moves.

Thankfully, the frame rate issues that plagued Sword and Shield and later DS games have been eliminated, resulting in a much smoother combat experience. The top-down perspective also reduces the blurry graphics problems that occur in modern games, where the player’s field of vision is often limited to a few meters in each direction.
