About This Game:
SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance Switch NSP is a platform game developed by Lizardcube for the Switch and published by Sega, released on August 29, 2025.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance stems from Sega’s efforts to revive some of its dormant series. The Shinobi series began in 1987 as a fighting platform game in arcades.

First, let’s talk about the story and basic premise: After discovering the destruction of his village and the petrification of his students, the protagonist Joe Musashi embarks on a quest for revenge against an organization called Any Corporation. Joe wants to get revenge on them and their leader, Lord Ross, who aims for world domination.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a 2D platform game similar to other games in the series, but it offers some unique elements in an attempt to innovate. The game is much less linear and features large levels where you use a map to plan your next move.

Some areas are difficult to access due to locked doors, and you will need to find levers or buttons to continue the game. Some levels are only accessible after acquiring special powers, which we’ll discuss later. Once you master these powers, you can revisit a previous level to uncover some of its secrets.
In most cases, you’ll use a katana to defeat enemies, and you can also throw kunai. The number of kunai is limited, but you can find more as you progress.
In addition to the usual dodging and jumping moves to overcome obstacles, the game incorporates light and heavy attacks, ninjutsu techniques, long-range kunai throws, and graceful finishing moves. It might seem like random button pressing at first, but you’ll quickly realize the importance of strategic planning as you need to combine attacks, unique ninjutsu techniques, and dodging at the right time.

Once I got into the rhythm of the game, I really felt like a ninja jumping and attacking. Combining different attacks to surprise enemies and then delivering a graceful finishing blow was incredibly fun, and I loved that the game encouraged fighting multiple enemies simultaneously.
I can say that slicing up three or four enemies at once and finishing them all off with one satisfying blow is an incredible feeling. Another well-known characteristic of Shinobi Games is its difficulty. The levels I played weren’t grueling, but the boss fights required a bit of practice.
If you’re the type who likes a challenge, you can test yourself using only the basic abilities, but Musashi has many moves you’ll want to use, which shows just how dynamic the game’s combat is.
